osu!mania

I started playing 4K in 2023. I haven't touched any other modes lol
I currently play in the 2.5*-2.8* range, and slowly inching my way to 3*. I have a huge library of fun songs, so I'm trying not to worry too much about advancing quickly. I prefer high-energy songs with lots of tapping. c: osu! is a great way for me to discover new music.

Setup

Originally, I used the ZX23 (numpad) keys on my Razer Cynosa Chroma, but since this is a mushy membrane keyboard, the actuation point is at bottom-out with poor feedback. It generally feels inconsistent while requiring more force.

I bought a pair of 2-key keypads for $7 each on Aliexpress. They are 2x2", USB-C, and have LEDs. It uses its own (possibly dubious idk lol) software to set keys, macros, and light patterns. They're originally marketed to be "copy & paste" shortcut keypads. It doesn't matter what keys you assign them to if you're using them for osu!, as long as you assign the same keys in mania settings. I just use 1234.

I'm using the switches that came with it, and I'm fairly certain they're outemu Red, but I can't confirm. I tried the outemu Silent Peach V3, but didn't care for them and continue to use the included ones.
I would be interested in trying other switches, but I'm happy with these for now.

They are a massive improvement over the keyboard. They also allow for more distance between my hands and I don't feel as cramped, since my posture isn't limited by my keyboard width. Having more feedback is helpful, and I don't have to be as forceful.

My only complaint with them currently is the "traction pads" on the bottom. There's 4 small, circular rubber pads on the bottom corners. They don't work on my desk surface and still slide around. I usually place them on mousepads to keep them in place, but it's awkward. I think my solution for this (eventually) will be to apply a different rubberized material to the entire bottom. I'm considering shelf liner, or repurposing an old mousepad or silicone mat.

The keycaps make me so happy! They are made by Chibi-Oneechan. I was able to purchase 4 keycaps individually (without a keychain) at one of their con booths.
